12,515 grooms for Rakhi

NDTV Imagine’s plans for ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’ has kicked off with
roaring response from prospective grooms from across the world. In
just 20 days of the show announcement, NDTV Imagine has received a
thunderous response from Rakhi’s admirers. There has been a flood of
entries received from across the globe via phone, email, SMS and even
personal deliveries to the NDTV Imagine office in Mumbai.

12,515 hopefuls have already sent in their profiles in the hope that
they will win Rakhi’s heart and walk away with her hand in marriage.
From businessmen to models and from NRI’s to doctors, and engineers,
these prospective grooms come from all walks of life. Delhi tops the
list with 2,465 entries where Mumbai stands second with 1,980 entries
and Lucknow is in the same league with 1,830 entries. The cities like
Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Ahmedabad are
not behind either. Most entries are in the broad age group of 18 to
over 35.

A 18 years old Ramesh from Patna thinks that he can fulfill the need
of love and affection that Rakhi is looking for and hence he is the
perfect match for her. 25 years old Sanjay a bachelor from Mumbai
really appreciates Rakhi’s bindass attitude and is looking forward to
be short listed because he thinks that he is mature enough to support
and guide her in every aspect of life.

Reacting to the overwhelming response to her swayamvar, a
super-excited Rakhi opined that it is a great platform for her. She is
happy and wants to really choose one from the lot.

With such a huge response, NDTV officials are really happy and look
forward for the programme as a big success.

The last date of registration is 5th of May after which 15 prospective
grooms will be short listed to take part in ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’

Mother Daughter to act together

Although Soha’s brother, Saif Ali Khan, has acted with their mom Sharmila Tagore, a veteran actress even earlier in Vidhu Vinod Chopra‘s Eklavya – The Royal Guard, it is for the first time that Soha Ali Khan will be sharing the screen with her mom.

Soha Ali Khan had finally teamed up on-screen with mother Sharmila Tagore in a yet untitled, Brit-Asian film to be directed by debutante director Sangeeta Datta.

The film tells the story of a father and his three daughters. Both Sharmila and Soha were so very impressed by the script that they instantly gave in their nod. The shooting for the film will begin in May in London.

Girish Karnad, last seen in 8X10 Tasveer is learnt to be playing the father’s role in the film. The makers hope to showcase the film at the prestigious London Film Festival to be held in October 2009.

The debutant director, Sangeeta Datta has earlier been an assistant to acclaimed filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh for all his feature films and has also been a part of the team on another Brit-Asian film titled Bricklane starring Tannishta Chatterjee and Satish Kaushik.

The mother daughter pair were seen together only on small screen when they came as celebrity judges on the reality dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’s last season.

Sonam’s sister turns producer

Alongside elder daughter of Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, her sister is creating ripples in tinsel town. The younger daughter of Anil Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor is also gearing up for a filmy stint.

Sonam Kapoor’s younger sibling Rhea Kapoor is turning producer with movie Ayesha which has the former in the lead role. It is based on Jane Austen’s celebrated novel ‘Emma’ and Sonam’s character is of a desi Emma who is independent, young, mature and likes to play matchmaker for others.

It is believed that dad Anil Kapoor wasn’t so happy with the kind of movies Sonam was offered after Saawariya. So he decided an exclusive movie to showcase his dear daughter’s acting talent. He roped his talented second daughter for this flick to act as an official producer though the movie will be produced by Kapoor dad himself.

Rhea Kapoor is an alumnus of Dhirubhai Ambani International School and is acting as an assistant to debutant director Ayaan Mukherji, who is Kajol’s cousin, for Karan Johar’s Wake Up Sid. Rhea, like Sonam, was an assistant director before Sanjay Leela Bhansali made her act in ‘Saawariya’.

Shiney in Chaloo Movie

Doing films out of the box is this ‘gangster’s forte, and now Shiney Ahuja is also exploring even more different horizons. His next venture is going to be a ‘chaloo movie’ and he has no regrets doing it. Well, that’s the name of his next film. That’s right, it’s called – CHALOO MOVIE!

Yes, Shiney has worked in a film called CHALOO MOVIE. It has an ensemble cast to it and this is only his second film after LIFE IN A…METRO where he has worked in a multi starrer. This out and out comedy where Shiney would be getting an opportunity to tickle our funny bones will also have a prominent cast including Rajpal Yadav, Shekhar Suman, Sayali Bhagat, Gulshan Grover, Hrishita Bhatt and Divya Dutta.

As per the makers, CHALOO MOVIE is an intense film which unveils various layers as the film progresses. It begins with the story of a young man selling tickets in black and being caught by a police officer for the offense. Eventually though, the policeman is caught up in a whirlwind, where a don and his high commissioner – both want to get hold of the guy he’d initially caught. As the plot from then on unravels, policeman is baffled about the young offender’s true identity.

The film is directed by Vinod Pande whose last release was RED SWASTIK that had starred Sherlyn Chopra as a central protagonist. From a sensual drama cum thriller, Vinod Pande moves to comedy with CHALOO MOVIE which has been produced by BIG Pictures, the motion picture brand of Reliance BIG Entertainment Ltd (RBEL).

SRK gives final touch to Dulha Mil Gaya

Shah Rukh Khan has given dates to producer Vivek Vaswani to shoot for the final leg of DULHA MIL GAYA which involves filming of a song. The film has already been completely shot except for this song sequence and has been awaiting Shah Rukh’s arrival on the scene to mark it’s 100% completion.

There was just a single song, a qawalli, which was remaining to be picturized on Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen.

Now that Shah Rukh Khan has nodded and given dates, the song would be shot in May. There was some balance shoot that was left; however even that was completed on a cruise ship in Malaysia last week under the supervision of action director Aamar Shetty.

Further confirms Vivek Vaswani who has been patiently waiting for the film to reach it’s finishing mark.

“DULHA MIL GAYA” has moved into post production. In fact, dubbing has already begun at Yashraj studios under the supervision of sound designer Anuj Mathur.
The film stars Fardeen Khan, Sushmita Sen, Mohit Chadda, Tara Sharma, Johny Lever, Parikshat Sahni, Bina Kak, Howard Rosemeyer, Suchitra Pillai, Anushka Manchanda, Viveck Vaswani, Tuffy the French poodle and introduces Isshita sharma, with Shahrukh Khan in a special appearance.

B-Town celebs celebrates with Navy

The pretty lady Minissha Lamba was recently invited by the Navy to attend an awards ceremony which was held at the Navy Nagar in Colaba.

We think that the actress was in complete awe of the men in uniforms! Minissha really had a good time, made a lot of pals and was all praises for the real-life heroes.

Perhaps, this was the first time ever that Minissha got a chance to interact with the naval force and was completely blown away! The actress like a lot of other people, has a lot of respect for the defense personals and was in high spirits throughout the night.

When we asked the actress about her naval experience she said, “Suddenly what we do pales in insignificance compared to how the heroes of our nation protect us. I salute their bravery; it’s an absolute honour to be here”.

Well, that’s not all! On being extended an invitation, Minissha also promised to visit the navy ships over the weekend!

Aftab Shivdasani and Jackie Shroff too were among the celebrities who were present there.

Well, now that’s what we call ball in Navy!!!

Jiah has two UTV films in kitty

Quite contrary to what was earlier reported, Jiah Khan was ousted of UTV Motion Pictures‘ “Yahoo” and now Jiah Khan has signed a two-film deal with the company.

“UTV has signed me for two of their future films to be started later this year,” Jiah, who was last seen in the hit movie “Ghajini“, said in a press release.

Ken Ghosh directed, “Yahoo”, features Shahid Kapur in the male lead. Media reports claimed that Jiah was asked to leave the project.

“After the changes they made in the script, I felt that I don’t suit the character,” said Jiah.

Even UTV officials had clarified that Jiah left “Yahoo” after creative changes were made to the script.

“Speculations in the industry about Jiah Khan being dropped out of Ken Ghosh’s project are completely erroneous. It was a mutual decision whereby Jiah opted out of the project seeing a misfit between the character and Jiah,” said Ram Mirchandani, COO, UTV Rampage Motion Pictures.

The details of the project are not yet out but since Jiah is a wonderful actor with some amazing talent, she is supposedly signed for UTV’s next projects.

John Abraham’s Dare-devilry

John Abraham showcased immense courage and determination when he jumped off a forty floor skyscraper in New York while shooting for Kabir Khan’s ‘New York’.

According to reports, the scene in question had already been shot with a stuntman once, but when John saw the rushes he wasn’t too impressed and thought that being a thorough professional that he is, it is his responsibility to make sure that the scene shot is the best ever.

Going by the idea, John told Kabir that he found the scene spectacular and hence he himself should do it.

It is believed that on knowing this, Kabir was surprisingly shocked and he asked John if he was sure that he would be able to pull it off. John told him that he would like to take the necessary training. He trained with a few stuntmen for two days.

Though it could’ve proven fatal if the rope had snapped or John would have lost his sense of direction, but our daring hunk did it flawlessly and the rappelling stunt is already the talk of the town.

All that we can say is…Bravo John!!!

Sonam and Anil Kapoor nixed to share screen-space

Sonam Kapoor, the beloved daughter of Slumdog star Anil Kapoor, said that they are just not inclined to work together.

There is a pivotal role in Anil Kapoor’s home-production of his own daughter’s father that he was supposed to play. But Anil, high on the global success of Slumdog Millionaire is not doing it.

Sonam justifies and support her father and says that he looks far younger than his age and that’s why I wouldn’t want him to play my father. The role in Ayesha that is making the issue actually didn’t suit him. Sonam thinks that dad can’t play the conventional father.

In fact earlier, Anil had been offered a role in Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Delhi 6 with Sonam. Both father and daughter decided against it. In fact Sonam was more against the idea of their coming together than Anil.

Kangna advocates Anjana opposite Adhyayan

Anjana Sukhani…u have seen her in recent release ‘Jashn’ and earlier in ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’ and ‘Golmaal Returns’.
Well, the others were just multi-starrers where she was kind of hanging around like the funny show piece in ‘Golmaal Returns’ and the married Anil Kapoor’s younger girlfriend in ‘Salaam-e-ishq’. But in Jashn she had a performance oriented role.

In ‘Jashn’ she’s been romantically paired with a much younger hero Adhyayan Suman. Reason! Adhyayan’s girlfriend Kangna recommended her for the film has given her that confidence.

Ummm… we very well understand Anjana’s sentiments. But we need to remind her that the movie also has Shahana Goswami who mightn’t look as pretty as her, but is a good actress as seen in ‘Rock On’ and ‘Firaaq’.
We think she needs to enjoy the ‘Jashn’ as much as she can. Because her other upcoming releases too like ‘Allah Ke Banday’ and ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ don’t look promising either Much like ‘Jai Veeru’, ‘Sunday’ and the rest, she must make hay while the sun shines.
